Toward EXcellence, Access and Success (TEXAS) Grant

Renewal Requirements

In order to receive the TEXAS Grant in the second year after being awarded an initial award, a student must:

Be enrolled for at least nine credit hours.
Meet UT Dallas’ Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements at the end of the first year in the program.
Demonstrate financial need.

In order to receive the TEXAS Grant after the second year, you must:

Be enrolled for at least nine credit hours (please contact your financial aid counselor if you are in your graduating semester and will be registered for less than nine credit hours).
Meet UT Dallas’ Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements at the end of the first year in the program.
Have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale and complete at least 24 semester credit hours per year at the end of the second year in the program or in subsequent years.
Demonstrate financial need.

Students entering the program from high school who continue in college and who meet program academic standards can receive awards for up to 150 semester credit hours, until they receive a bachelor’s degree, or for five years if enrolled in a four-year degree plan, whichever comes first.

Students entering the program with an associate’s degree who continue in college and who meet program academic standards can receive awards for up to 90 semester credit hours, until they receive a bachelor’s degree, or for three years if enrolled in a four-year degree plan, whichever comes first.

Comet Promise

To be eligible for Comet Promise in subsequent years after being awarded an initial award, you must:

Complete at least 30 UT Dallas credit hours each academic year.
- You may include summer to complete this requirement; however, Comet Promise does not cover summer tuition charges.
Maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.5.
Continue to meet the income requirement of the program (total family income of $65,000 or less).
Complete the financial aid application process by March 15.
Remain in good academic standing and be making satisfactory academic progress toward your degree.
Be enrolled in consecutive fall/spring semesters.

Comet Promise will only pay for classes taken in the fall and spring semesters. The program covers all of your tuition and mandatory fees using scholarships, grants, and tuition exemptions from federal, state, and institutional funds with any remaining tuition costs covered by Comet Promise funding.

Eligible first-time college students may receive Comet Promise for eight (8) semesters or until they receive their first bachelor’s degree, whichever comes first.

Eligible transfer students may receive Comet Promise for four (4) semesters or until they receive their first bachelor’s degree, whichever comes first.
