Office of the President

I have happily agreed to Chancellor McRaven’s request that I serve as President ad interim of The University of Texas at Dallas until such time as a president is appointed by the UT System Board of Regents and takes office. In accepting this appointment I am fully cognizant of the full scope of responsibilities attendant to serving as the chief administrative officer of UT Dallas at this exciting, yet challenging, time.

Our university continues to benefit from ever-increasing numbers of academically superior students who are choosing to pursue their education with us. Concurrently, we continue hiring exceptionally talented faculty to provide the great instruction that these students require and to strengthen our research productivity. We will be moving into the spectacular new Biosciences and Bioengineering Building during this year, while construction proceeds with the new Callier-BBS Building, the major addition to the Student Services Building, the Peter Walker Landscape project, and the Northside development.

However, these construction projects, impressive as they are, will still leave us with critical needs for additional facilities, for research, teaching, student life, student housing, and parking. Successfully developing plans for financing these additional facilities is essential for our continued growth and progress.

We can all take pride in the excellence manifested in our students, faculty, and staff. With dedicated efforts from all these members of our community, I am confident that UT Dallas will continue the growth in productivity and in stature that we have enjoyed during the presidency of David Daniel. I am dedicated to accomplishing a seamless transition from his leadership and to presenting the next president with an even greater university than the one that Dr. Daniel is leaving to us.
