Welcome Week Spotlights Student Life at UT Dallas

welcome week

The Welcome Week website has a full schedule of events planned.

Welcome Week 2012 will have plenty of contests, music, sports and food to give students a taste of what life at UT Dallas is all about.

Student groups and departments across campus have been planning the festivities for months. Highlights will include the Cometville Carnival on the Mall, the Breakfast Bonanza at various locations, Rec 'n' Wild water games at the softball fields and a Dive-In Movie at an on-campus pool.

“We hope all the events will help Comets make new friends and share in the excitement about the upcoming year,” said Dean of Students Gene Fitch. “We will have activities at different locations throughout the day, so students should find something that interests them and works around their schedules.”

The week began with the University Convocation on Aug. 26, a ceremonial event for incoming students that marks the beginning of their academic careers at UT Dallas.

Then the atmosphere bursts into a social celebration, with jam-packed days giving incoming freshmen and returning students a sampling of campus events and activities.

Comedians Tone Bell, Jonathan Burns and Mike McGee will perform in Spellbound, a free evening of stand-up comedy, magic and spoken word at 8 p.m. Aug. 29 in the University Theatre.

The popular annual Texas Party, featuring a live band, bull riding, midway games and line dancing, has been moved to Sept. 8 in the Student Union.

Following is a list of activities for Aug. 26-31. Also  visit the Welcome Week website.
