Family members and well-wishers will join the celebratory throng May 18-19, when spring commencement ceremonies will honor 2,635 UT Dallas graduates, a 22 percent increase from last year.

UT Dallas Graduation Increase

UT Dallas will hold six ceremonies to accommodate the increasing number of graduates from the University’s seven schools. The ceremonies, each about two hours long, will be held in the Activity Center at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on both days.

Among those expected to receive degrees are 1,198 master’s students and PhD candidates and 1,437 undergraduates.

Top graduate degrees this spring are in management and computer science. Popular undergraduate degrees include business, interdisciplinary studies, electrical engineering, psychology, and art and technology.

Number of Graduates, Spring 2012

The largest of UT Dallas’ seven schools, the Naveen Jindal School of Management, is expected to award the most degrees: 1,119.

Next is the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science with 430; the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences with 299; the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics with 246; the School of Arts and Humanities with 235; the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences with 195; and the School of Interdisciplinary Studies with 111.

In keeping with tradition, six students have been chosen as commencement speakers. UT Dallas President David E. Daniel also will address audiences.

Following the ceremony, graduates and guests will recess to the mall for “Memories on the Mall.” The event celebrates the University’s newest alumni with light refreshments, photo opportunities and a special gift for graduates.

Those unable to attend commencement may watch a live video stream of the ceremonies on the UT Dallas Media Services website.
