Students’ Relatives Can Experience Campus Life During Family Day

UT Dallas Family Day

The Family Day tradition at UT Dallas continues to grow in popularity. More than 950 guests are registered to attend the festivities on Saturday.

Organizers are expecting a large crowd as Family Day continues to grow in popularity at The University of Texas at Dallas. More than 950 guests are registered to attend this year’s event. Online registration is closed. However, family members can still register at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Visitor Center. Registration is $25, with free admission for students and children younger than 12.

“Family Day has grown dramatically in size, virtually doubling in the past two years,” said Dan Long, assistant director for new student programs. “It gives family members a chance to visit campus and see all the changes happening, and also spend some quality time together with their student.”

Registration includes a Family Day T-shirt, a catered lunch, carnival games for all ages, a volunteer project and admission to UT Dallas soccer games that afternoon against Hardin-Simmons University. The women’s soccer team will play at 2 p.m., and the men’s soccer team will play at 4 p.m.

UT Dallas Athletics will offer a sports clinic in the Activity Center for children ages 5-12.

A welcome program on the campus mall under the trellis – or in the Clark Center if weather is inclement – will feature greetings from University President David E. Daniel; Dr. Gene Fitch, dean of students; Liza Liberman, Student Government president; and Dr. Kenneth Pugh, clinical associate professor at the Callier Center.

The Student Wellness Center and Recreational Sports will sponsor family friendly competitions, and the Office of Student Volunteerism has organized Scarves for the Homeless, at which guests can help decorate fabric pieces that will be made into scarves. The service project organizers hope to donate 100 winter scarves to The Samaritan Inn in McKinney, a homeless shelter in Collin County, and The Bridge, which provides recovery services for the homeless in Dallas.
