The UT Dallas volleyball team will travel to Texas Lutheran University in Seguin in a bid to claim its third-straight ASC Championship Friday and Saturday.

The Comet men’s soccer team faces off against conference rivals in a tournament at UT Tyler.  The women’s soccer team plays at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene.

Winners of the tournaments become the 2010 conference champions and advance to the  NCAA Division III post-season championship tournaments that begin the following week across the nation.

Volleyball — The Comets are  favored but could meet up with Hardin-Simmons — the only ASC team to defeat the 25th-ranked Comets this season — in the semifinal round.

The Comets have qualified for the post-season every year since the program began in 2004, and have played in three of the last four tournament title matches.

The team  set a regular-season record for victories by finishing the schedule at 24-5.

Men’s Soccer — The Comets will be trying to overcome the bitter taste of 2009, when they missed qualifying for the post-season the only time in the last nine seasons. The Comets finished off their 2010 schedule with three straight wins and are hoping their offense can muster enough firepower to complement a defense that has given up just 13 goals in 17 games. UT Dallas won ASC titles in 2004 and 2007.

Women’s Soccer — An ASC Tournament appearance has become old hat for the Comets, who have played in eight straight, but so has the trip back to Hardin-Simmons, where the nationally ranked Cowgirls have hosted and dominated the tournament every season since 2002. In 2006, the Comets took Hardin-Simmons to overtime before falling, 2-1.

The Comets finished the 2010 season strong, winning eight straight and outscoring their opponents, 37-3, in the final 10 matches of the year.
