4 Honored in Tennis

Four members of the UT Dallas women’s tennis team were recognized by the American Southwest Conference.

Freshman Rachel Houston was named an ASC All-East Division Second Team Singles selection. Both she and Jennifer Solis were voted to the Second Team in the No. 1 doubles category.

Savannah Matlock, UT Dallas’ only senior, and Lauren Diaz earned Honorable Mention nods for their work as the Comets’ No. 2 tandem in doubles play.

Norum, a sophomore, led the Comets in hitting en route to earning a Second Team nod for the second consecutive season. Duran, who raised her batting average by nearly .200 points, was named an Honorable Mention recipient.

In addition, third baseman Courtney Kuebler won the division Newcomer of the Year Award.

The three student-athletes were the offensive lynchpins of a UT Dallas squad that tripled its win total from 2009.

Norum manufactured the second-best batting average (.477) in the ASC and roped a league-high 16 doubles.

Duran finished the 2010 season as the ASC’s third-most proficient hitter (.469).

Kuebler tied Norum by totaling a team-best six home runs, including two against No. 6 East Texas Baptist on April 13.

Kuebler started in 39 of the Comets’ 40 games in 2010.
