PlainsCapital Provides Major Gift To Center for BrainHealth

The UT Dallas Center for BrainHealth has received a $150,000 gift from PlainsCapital Corp., support intended to help the University’s drive toward becoming a nationally competitive research institution.

The gift was announced at the March 29 “Realize the Vision” campaign kickoff, at which PlainsCapital President and former Chairman of The University of Texas System Board of Regents James Huffines was a guest.

“There’s no question that UT Dallas will be a Tier One university – it’s just a matter of when, and I think that will be soon,” said Huffines, who is also co-chair of the University Campaign Council.

“For this community, to be truly globally competitive, we have to have a top-tier research university, and UT Dallas will fit that bill,” he said.

Dr. Sandra Bond Chapman, founder and chief director of the Center for BrainHealth, said the gift would help fuel the center’s research mission.

“With the support of visionary leaders like PlainsCapital Corp., BrainHealth researchers will continue scientific exploration into ways to build resilience, regain cognitive function and retrain the brain to maximize the amazing potential of our most vital organ,” Chapman said.

She continued, “Brain discoveries are a vast, relatively unexplored frontier, and traditionally, what scientists learn from research takes decades to trickle down to the general public. At the Center for BrainHealth, interdisciplinary research discoveries have immediate and effective impact, changing the lives for the better now, not generations from now.”

With more than 60 ongoing studies, the Center for BrainHealth is making strides in understanding how the brain operates to support complex decision making, problem solving, and independent working and living.
