Nine students from Taiwan are benefiting from the Yancey Hai Fellowship.
This fall, nine international students arrived at UT Dallas, eager to advance their studies and accelerate their futures. Setting them apart from their fellow international students was the generosity of a benefactor who knew exactly what they were going through.
Yancey Hai MA’78 was a self-professed “poor student from Taiwan.” Hai paid just $13 per credit hour — all he could afford at the time.
“I came to the University as a student with very limited resources,” said Hai, a 2012 Distinguished Alumni Award honoree. “The support and education I received made so much of my career success possible. I just wanted other students to have the same opportunity given to me.”
Hai has made a $100,000 commitment to UT Dallas following a trip back to campus. As chairman of Delta Electronics in Taiwan, he still remembers his college experience and understands the impact that funding can make for students with limited financial resources.

He has established the Yancey Hai Fellowship, aimed at supporting international students who are pursuing master’s degrees through the Naveen Jindal School of Management (JSOM). Additionally, his contribution includes funds for equipping classrooms with state-of-the-art projectors in the Jindal School building addition, which is now under construction.
Yi-Chieh “Regina” Chen, a fellowship recipient from Taiwan, is pursuing her master’s degree in finance. She said the fellowship relieves financial pressure on her and her family.
“This fellowship will ease the burden and allow me to concentrate on my studies,” she said.
