UT Dallas’ Tim Redman Receives Lifetime Achievement Award
Educator Recognized by PEN Texas for Outstanding Literary Contributions

Dr. Tim Redman, a professor of literary studies in the School of Arts and Humanities at The University of Texas at Dallas, has been presented a lifetime achievement award by PEN Texas for his involvement with the Lone Star Writing Contest, his commitment to the Freedom-to-Write Committee, his biographical work about Ezra Pound, as well as his involvement with chess as an educational tool.

Redman was chosen to receive the award by members of PEN Texas’ board and was presented with a plaque at a recent Lone Star Awards brunch in Dallas.

Redman, who authored Ezra Pound and Italian Fascism (Cambridge Univ. Press, l99l), regularly writes columns for Chess Life magazine, reviews biographies for The Dallas Morning News and contributes articles to literary journals. He had an integral role in establishing the Lone Star Writing Contest, which annually awards three Texas high school students full scholarships to UT Dallas. In addition, Redman, who serves as president of the U.S. Chess Federation, led UT Dallas’ chess team to win the President’s Cup at the “Final Four” national collegiate chess team championships.

Redman earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Loyola University Chicago and master’s and Ph.D. degrees in comparative literature from The University of Chicago. He specializes in American and British modernism, American studies, medieval and renaissance Italian literature, ecopoetics, biography and autobiography.

The PEN Texas lifetime achievement award, which will be given annually, was created in 2000.

PEN Texas is a branch of PEN, a membership association of prominent literary writers and editors.
