For the second year in a row, Public Administration Review (PAR), a scholarly journal edited by The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) Associate Provost Dr. Larry D. Terry, has been rated the most frequently cited academic publication in the field of public administration.
The ranking was issued by Journal Citation Reports (JCR), which is put out by the independent database publishing company Institute for Scientific Information (ISI). ISI evaluates nearly 9,000 publications in a variety of disciplines each year and is regarded as one of the most authoritative sources for assessing the quality of academic journals.
Terry brought PAR, which addresses issues related to the public sector and public sector management, to The University of Texas at Dallas last year. A leading public affairs expert and a professor of public administration in UTD’s School of Social Sciences, Terry has served as editor-in-chief of the journal since 1999. PAR, the official journal of the American Society for Public Administration, is the oldest scholarly journal of public administration in the United States and is published six times per year.
Last month, PAR published a special issue that reflected on the events of Sept. 11, 2001, and the evolving role of state, local and federal governments in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks. The special issue included a forward by former President George H.W. Bush and articles by a wide range of experts in their respective fields.
“Obviously, we are very pleased to be rated by an independent group as the most cited public administration journal for the second consecutive year,” Terry said of the JCR ranking. “This is good news for the writers as well as the editors because it says their work is having an impact and reaching a broader audience.”
JCR rated Philosophy and Public Affairs, published by Princeton University Press, the second most cited public administration journal and Public Administration, published in the United Kingdom by Oxford University Press, the third.
