Returning to The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) after a recent European tour, UTD faculty members Enric Madriguera, guitarist, and Kathryn Evans, soprano, will perform in concert Friday, April 26, at 8 p.m. in the Jonsson Performance Hall on campus. Included in the program will be works from Sei Lieder and Sei Cavatine by Mauro Giuliani, Friends and Lovers by John W. Duarte, Mis Primeros Versos by Ernesto Cordero and El Vito by Fernando Obradors, as well as other works for solo guitar.
Tickets for Madriguera / Evans are free to anyone with a UTD photo identification card, as well as for students of other universities and for children. Tickets are $10 for the general public and are available for purchase Tuesdays through Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at UTD’s Visual Arts Building or by phone with a credit card.
Evans joined the faculty of UTD in 1994 and is currently the Associate Dean for the Arts and oversees the university’s Art and Performance program. She teaches choral and vocal music and directs the UTD Chamber Singers. Evans holds masters’ degrees in both music and mathematics from the University of California at San Diego. She served as director of the San Diego Bach Society and was an invited judge at the International Guitar Festival in Rust, Austria, in 2001 and again this year, as was Dr. Madriguera. Evans has performed with Madriguera in a variety of venues and countries.
Madriguera is director of guitar studies and professor of humanities at Eastfield College
and director of guitar studies at UTD. He performs and teaches both in the Dallas area and abroad. In 1997, he traveled to Peru, Mexico, Spain and Germany for guitar festivals and projects and was a performer and faculty member at the VII International Guitar Festival in Brno in August 1998. Madriguera continues to perform in chamber music ensembles with his wife, Sabine, and the new music ensemble “Voices of Change.”
