The volleyball team has won 21 consecutive matches and lost just once this season. The Comets, who have beaten four nationally ranked opponents this year, are No. 3 in the NCAA Division III AVCA Coaches Poll.

UT Dallas’ volleyball team will begin its defense of the American Southwest Conference Tournament title on Thursday, riding a 21-match winning streak.

The Comets (26-1, 12-0), ranked No. 3 in the NCAA Division III AVCA Coaches Poll, will face either Hardin-Simmons or East Texas Baptist at 5 p.m. in the double-elimination tournament at Mary Hardin-Baylor’s Mayborn Campus Center in Belton, Texas. They will be seeking their fourth conference championship overall.

Last Saturday, the team completed the regular season with a perfect 11-0 record at home by rolling to a 3-0 win over No. 24-ranked Hendrix. It was the Comets’ fourth win over a nationally ranked opponent this year.

The Comets are led by freshman outside hitter Dylan Brinkman and senior middle blocker Michelle Toro, who are among the top players in kills in the ASC. Brinkman, who led the league with 316, is the only conference player with more than 300 on the year. She also set a school record with 20 kills in a match against UT Tyler this season. Toro topped the ASC in hitting percentage (.353) and ranks third in kills with 281.

Freshman libero Briana Tully, who averages 4.84 digs per set, is one of the top defensive players in the ASC, earning player of the week honors four times this season.

As a team, UT Dallas led the conference in five categories during the regular season and ranks in the top five in Division III in per set averages for assists (13.85), digs (20.23), kills (14.70) and team attacks (40.76).

The ASC tournament winner earns an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament.

Men's Soccer Team Earns Right to Host ASC Tournament

Junior midfielder Danny Meyer ranks fourth in the American Southwest Conference with 20 points.

The UT Dallas men’s soccer team will be defending its American Southwest Conference Tournament title this weekend at home.

The Comets (12-4, 9-0-1) captured the regular-season title for the second time in three seasons, winning seven of their last eight matches. They will play either Concordia Texas or the University of Ozarks at 11 a.m. Saturday.

UT Dallas is led by senior goalkeeper Joseph Weber, last year’s ASC Tournament MVP who leads the league in the fewest goals allowed among goalkeepers with at least 1,000 minutes in goal (13). He ranks second in wins (10), third in goals against average (0.97) and has 44 saves with three shutouts.

Freshman forward/midfielder Alfredo Kaegi, junior midfielder Danny Meyer and senior midfielder Kevin Whatley lead the Comets’ offense. Kaegi and Meyer tied for first in the ASC in game-winning goals (four). Kaegi also leads the ASC in shots (68), tied for first in goals (13) and ranks second in points (28). Meyer ranks fourth in points (20) and goals (eight), and Whatley led the conference in assists (seven).

The ASC tournament winner earns an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament.

Women's Soccer Team Advances to Semifinals

The women's soccer team defeated Concordia Texas, 2-1, on Tuesday night to advance to the semifinals of the American Southwest Conference Tournament.

The Comets (12-6-1), seeded No. 4 in the tournament, will face top-seeded Hardin-Simmons at 11 a.m. Friday in Abilene, Texas.
