Lance Sweeney from Spring 2013 graduation

President Daniel will appear at a meet and greet for graduates on Tuesday, as well as alternative commencement ceremonies on Sunday. Fall graduates may choose to walk in May, if they prefer.

The University of Texas at Dallas has scheduled alternative fall graduation celebrations to recognize students whose commencement ceremonies were canceled due to a severe ice storm in the Dallas-Fort Worth area last week.

The University encourages graduates to participate in these events marking their academic milestone, but regardless of whether they attend, diplomas will be mailed to all graduates after degrees are certified.

“I hope that every graduate and as many family members as possible will be able to participate in at least one of the alternatives that we will be providing to recognize our fall graduates’ academic achievements,” said UT Dallas President David E. Daniel. “I greatly appreciate the patience and understanding of everyone involved as we cope with this unfortunate weather.”

Alternative graduation celebrations are as follows:

  • An informal, come-and-go reception with the University president will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Clark Center. This event is intended primarily for students with family members who have traveled great distances, though any graduate is welcome to attend. Fall graduates are invited to wear their full commencement regalia and bring family members. Daniel will extend congratulatory handshakes and be available for photos with graduates. Parking Lot I will be set aside for guests.

  • An alternative Fall Commencement will be held on Sunday in the Activity Center for students who want to celebrate their achievement before the end of the year.

  • Fall graduates are also invited to participate in spring 2014 commencement ceremonies. To do so, email graduation@utdallas.edu with the request and receive further instructions regarding regalia, tickets and other graduation information.
