For the third consecutive year, The University of Texas at Dallas is ranked in the top 20 in the world among universities founded less than 50 years ago, according to the just-released “100 Under 50” report from the Times Higher Education.

UT Dallas ranked 16th in the world and first in Texas this year.

The Times Higher Education magazine uses 13 performance indicators to rate the institutions, with categories in research, citations, teaching, international outlook and innovation.

UT Dallas is ranked third among schools in the United States, following the University of California, Irvine (7) and the University of California, Santa Cruz (8).

“So many universities in this ranking have shown they can match the ancient global elite and have proven that with the right drive, what others have developed over centuries can be achieved in a matter of decades,” said Phil Baty, editor of the Times Higher Education rankings. “They are a truly exciting and dynamic group of institutions, which should serve as a lesson to the rest of the world — that the traditional global world order is not unassailable and visionary young universities can break through.”

In recent years, UT Dallas also has been ranked as a top public college value in surveys from Kiplinger’s Personal Finance and The Princeton Review.

“Our focus always is on striving for excellence in all that we do, so it is rewarding to see independent acknowledgement of the University’s success,” UT Dallas President David E. Daniel said. “Although we are young, we have established UT Dallas’ reputation as a top-flight higher education institution, and for that, we congratulate our students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends who have worked so diligently in growing this great university.”

Enrollment at UT Dallas reached a new high in fall 2014 with 23,095 students. The freshman class posted an average SAT score of 1256 and included the largest number of National Merit Scholars (100) in the University’s history.

The University’s infrastructure has grown with the increasing demand from students.

In fall 2014, the University opened its fifth residence hall, a recreation center, dining hall and parking structure, and the growing Naveen Jindal School of Management added a 110,000-square-foot expansion. Construction continues on a bioengineering and sciences building and an enhancement project of the campus’ north central mall.
