UT Dallas has been ranked 15th among the top 100 schools under 50 years old by the Times Higher Education magazine.

This is the publication’s second year of ranking the best young universities in the “100 Under 50” list, published Wednesday.

The 100 Under 50 List compares universities in the world that were founded less than 50 years ago using 13 performance indicators, which emphasize research, knowledge transfer, teaching, diversity and international collaborations, and innovation. According to its website, the Times Higher Education Magazine used data from Thompson Reuters to assess core missions of the universities.

We are pleased when our efforts to sustain excellence in teaching and research are recognized. The work of our students, faculty and staff fuels this kind of prominence.

“We are pleased when our efforts to sustain excellence in teaching and research are recognized. The work of our students, faculty and staff fuels this kind of prominence,” said Dr. David E. Daniel, UT Dallas President. “We acknowledge as well the continued efforts of our Legislature, the UT System, and the UT System Board of Regents in helping us achieve this recognition.”

UT Dallas continues to gain recognition as an outstanding research university, with rankings in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, Kiplinger's Best Values in Public Colleges, the Princeton Review and U.S. News and World Report.

UT Dallas recently graduated its largest-ever cohort, with more than 3,000 students and a 15-percent increase from the year before. This year also saw a record number of invention disclosures, patent applications and licensing agreements.

“These new figures are really exciting. They disrupt the settled hierarchies and show that new powers in global higher education and research are emerging,” said Phil Baty, editor of Times Higher Education Rankings. “There is a new breed of dynamic universities emerging quickly and visibly.”
