The Davidson-Gundy Alumni Center is surrounded by 33,000 square feet of outdoor space including a patio overlooking the Green and the Grove, made up of southern live oak trees.
The University of Texas at Dallas will officially celebrate the opening of the Davidson-Gundy Alumni Center on Thursday, Sept. 7, with a series of events introducing the campus community to the new facility designed to deepen the connections between students and graduates.
The 30,246-square-foot center is named for Nancy Gundy Davidson BS’80 and Charles “Chuck” Davidson MS’80, in recognition of their $15 million gift that made its construction possible. The center offers the University’s more than 100,000 alumni a place where they can connect with one another and the campus.
“The opening of the Davidson-Gundy Alumni Center marks a new era on campus — one in which all Comets will be united through a common campus home,” said Dr. Kyle Edgington, vice president for development and alumni relations. “We look forward to unveiling this transformational facility, as well as recognizing the generosity of those who made it a reality.”
A ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9:30 a.m. near the center’s main entrance will mark the official opening of the building, which is designed to accommodate rentals for meetings, conferences, weddings and other events.
The ribbon-cutting will include remarks from University and UT System leadership as well as individuals who were instrumental in the development of the alumni center. After the ceremony, the building will be open for self-guided tours until 11:30 a.m.
Later that evening, the center will host a free outdoor concert for alumni and the UT Dallas community. The disco band Le Freak will perform on the Green, the center’s large central lawn, from 8 to 11 p.m. Free food and giveaways will be available while supplies last.
Both the ribbon-cutting and concert are free events, but registration is required.
