The Division of Student Affairs won a gold award for the University Housing at UT Dallas website redesign and silver in the specialty website category for the 2013 Welcome Week website (shown above).

UT Dallas recently garnered a number of awards for communications projects, including animated video, news writing and design.

At the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Southwest District IV awards ceremony held in Houston, the University won gold in several categories.

CASE is an international organization for professionals in alumni relations, marketing, communications and development. CASE District IV represents 2,904 members from 261 institutions in Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.

UT Dallas took the top honors in the Best Practices in Communications and Marketing category for enrollment recruitment marketing. The award recognizes the collaborative use of various publications, emails and websites to reach potential students.

Teri Brooks, the managing editor of the UT Dallas Magazine, also won gold for a short feature story she wrote, “The JFK Connection.” The story, which appeared in the 2013 fall edition of the magazine, details the connection between the Graduate Research Center of the Southwest (UT Dallas’ precursor) and President John F. Kennedy’s fateful visit to Dallas in 1963.

Teri Brooks, the managing editor of the UT Dallas Magazine, won gold for her short feature story “The JFK Connection.”

The revamped UT Dallas Overview — a project that gives potential applicants a snapshot of the University — received gold for improvement in design. Graphics designer Julianne Fowler, from the Marketing Department of the Office of Communications, created the art for the project.

The UT Dallas Viewbook also won a design award in the same category. LeeDon Moore, the creative director of the Marketing Department, received silver for his work. Moore is pursuing a master’s degree in fine arts from the Arts and Technology program.

The Office of Communications took silver in the Crisis Communications Program for its crisis management during the 2013 North Texas ice storm. Sudden changes in commencement scheduling, campus safety, delays and cancellations were communicated through a variety of outlets, including social media, website, hotline, email, text and local media.

Two communications managers won bronze awards for their writing.

Ben Porter, who has a master’s and a PhD in cognition and neuroscience from UT Dallas, was recognized for a piece titled “Mentally Challenging Activities Improve Memory as Baby Boomers Age.” The story described a study from the Center for Vital Longevity that showed learning mentally challenging skills, such as digital photography, helps improve memory in older people.

Amanda Siegfried’s science writing collection also took third. Her collection consisted of three News Center stories highlighting research in the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics: Space Weather Mission, Big Ideas Drive Science and New Approach to Fighting Lung Cancer.

Other offices across the University also won awards. The Division of Student Affairs won a gold award for the University Housing at UT Dallas website redesign and silver in the specialty website category for the 2013 Welcome Week website. The Office of Development and Alumni Relations received three awards — a gold award in the Low Cost Alumni Program category for its Free Birds screening at the Alamo Drafthouse; a silver award in the Major Gifts/Campaign category; and bronze in the Integrated Marketing Campaign category.
