UT Dallas recently recognized 67 graduates at the Summer 2016 Doctoral Hooding Ceremony. Friends, families and faculty applauded for those who were hooded by their supervising professors and deans at the ceremony.

The graduates represented six of the University's schools — the School of Arts and Humanities (1), the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences (6), the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science (30), the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences (7), the Naveen Jindal School of Management (9), and the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (14).

Dr. Monica Evans MA’04, PhD’07, associate professor in the School of Arts, Technology, and Emerging Communications, was a featured speaker at the ceremony. She ended her speech by quoting Louis Jenkins’ poem “Walking Through a Wall.”

“The best approach to a wall is, first, two hands placed flat against the surface; it's a matter of concentration and just the right pressure. You will feel the dry, cool inner wall with your fingers, then there is a moment of total darkness before you step through on the other side.”

  • Dr. Carliss Miller PhD'16 was hooded by Dr. Orlando Richard, associate professor of organizations, and Dr. David Ford Jr., professor of organizations, strategy and international management.
