The University of Texas at Dallas recently honored 76 graduates earning PhDs at the summer Doctoral Hooding Ceremony, held Aug. 10 in the Edith O’Donnell Arts and Technology Building Lecture Hall. Dr. Varghese Jacob, newly named interim dean of graduate studies, oversaw the event in which supervising professors joined him in placing academic hoods over the candidates’ heads to signify completion of their respective doctoral degrees.
The graduates represented seven of the University’s eight schools: two from the School of Arts and Humanities; one from the School of Arts, Technology, and Emerging Communication; seven each from the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences and the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences; 20 from the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science; 14 from the Naveen Jindal School of Management; and 25 from the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
Dr. James Bartlett, the interim dean of the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences, delivered the ceremony’s address, congratulating the candidates on their perseverance and reflecting on his experiences in the 1970s as a psychology doctoral student at Yale University.
