University Will Celebrate Newest Class of Spring Graduates Next Week
More Than 3,900 Students Will Participate in Ceremonies Beginning Monday

Last fall, Isaac Urcuyo (center), who earned a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, led his fellow graduates during the procession into their commencement ceremony for the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science. The Jonsson School will hold two ceremonies for spring commencement on Wednesday, starting at 9 a.m.

The University of Texas at Dallas’ Class of 2019 will be celebrated at spring commencement ceremonies May 13-16 at the Activity Center.

The University is expected to award more undergraduate degrees this spring than ever before, with 2,528 bachelor’s, 1,878 master’s and 92 doctoral students earning degrees. More than 3,900 students are expected to participate in the various commencement ceremonies.

The week’s formal ceremonies begin Monday with Honors Convocation and the Doctoral Hooding Ceremony.

Honors Convocation recognizes undergraduate students earning Latin honors, major honors or Collegium V honors. At the hooding ceremony, doctoral candidates will take the stage and have doctoral hoods placed over their heads by their advisors, signifying completion of the doctoral program.

Four commencement ceremonies on Tuesday will accommodate the 1,662 students expected to earn degrees this spring from the Naveen Jindal School of Management.

On Wednesday, 883 students will be honored at two ceremonies for the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science, while 72 are expected to participate in a ceremony for the School of Arts and Humanities and 190 for the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences.

For Thursday’s ceremonies, the numbers of students who will be recognized are as follows: 441 for the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences; 382 for the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics; 162 for the School of Arts, Technology, and Emerging Communication; and 139 for the School of Interdisciplinary Studies.

After each commencement, family, friends and graduates are invited for refreshments, photo opportunities and giveaways at Memories on the Mall. The tradition honors the University’s newest alumni and gives graduates the opportunity to reflect on their experiences at UT Dallas.
