A Message from President Benson: Weather Update

Dear UT Dallas students, staff and faculty:

I write to provide you with an update on our operations. But before doing so, I want to commend all of you for your patience with yet another atypical event. As I have witnessed over the last year, the UT Dallas community possesses the expertise and dedication to respond to unprecedented challenges. I would especially like to thank our facilities, police, housing and dining personnel. Your work to keep our campus safe and operating in the face of these daunting circumstances is greatly appreciated by our entire campus community.

We are continuing to monitor issues that have arisen on campus with outages of power, water and internet. Please pay close attention to communications as we consider further adjustments, especially regarding the ability to open campus facilities on Monday, Feb. 22. Below is a summary of our current plans:

On-site staffing and remote work through Feb. 19

Only essential personnel are expected to report to work. Nonessential personnel, including those working remotely, will not be required to work unless otherwise instructed by their supervisors.

Academic instruction

Instructors should be prepared to be fully online the week of Feb. 21-27 if the situation warrants doing so. To students who are concerned about class assignments and deadlines, please watch for more guidance on this matter. We anticipate that not everyone will have power and internet connections fully restored next week. Provost Inga Musselman and other members of the leadership team are aware of these obstacles and are working to smooth the way for students and faculty as we resume normal operations. Additional updates and guidance will be forthcoming.

Campus services

Dining — UT Dallas Auxiliary Services will provide updates for campus dining locations and hours via its social media accounts.

Comet Cruiser — Daily updates for 883 bus service availability can be found on the UTD Comet Cruiser social media accounts.

For those without power, several communities have established warming stations, including the City of Richardson.

You are encouraged to download the UTD Alert app for text updates and regularly check our homepage and social media channels.

As always, please take every precaution to keep yourself and your loved ones safe.

Sincerely,
