Carry The Load, a charitable organization whose mission is to restore the true meaning of Memorial Day, has selected UT Dallas’ Brain Performance Institute as a nonprofit partner for 2014.

The Brain Performance Institute, a nonprofit partner of Carry The Load, has formed a team that will participate in the Dallas Memorial March this Memorial Day weekend.

As a Carry The Load partner, the Brain Performance Institute will be a beneficiary of funds raised during the organization’s upcoming Dallas Memorial March.

“Carry The Load’s mission — to remember, honor and celebrate the incredible sacrifices that our service men and women, law enforcement officials, firefighters, rescue personnel and their families make — is a noble one,” said Eric Bennett, executive director of the Brain Performance Institute. “With funds raised by Carry The Load, the Brain Performance Institute will provide high-performance brain training to these American heroes and their families.”

Founded by two former Navy SEALs from Dallas, Carry The Load provides an interactive way for Americans to remember, honor and celebrate the men and women who died while serving in the United States armed forces over the Memorial Day weekend.

Navy veteran KeeShaun Coffey BS’;14 and Marine veteran Mike Rials BS’12 are members of the Brain Performance Institute who participated in last year’s march.

At the Dallas Memorial March, some participants walk for a few minutes and others march for hours while wearing weighted vests or carrying heavy objects to honor those who have fallen. Everyone is invited to participate no matter fitness level or ability.

The march will be held at Reverchon Park in Dallas beginning with an opening ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Sunday. It will start at 4 p.m. and end after 20 hours and 14 minutes at 12:14 p.m. Monday. The closing ceremony will be at 12:30 p.m. The Brain Performance Institute invites others to sign up to participate with its team.

“By building collaborative partnerships with these highly regarded organizations in Dallas that are poised to make significant impacts in each of their communities, Carry The Load will continue growing our vision,” said Stephen Holley, co-founder of Carry The Load. “We are so honored to be working with these like-minded parties, like the Brain Performance Institute, whose missions align with our own.”

Other Dallas-area nonprofit partners include Attitudes & Attire, Assist the Officer Foundation, Equest Hooves for Heroes, Friends of the Dallas Fire-Rescue Department, Sons of the Flag and Tip of the Spear Foundation.

“Through the efforts of Carry The Load, we are all able to express our respect and admiration for those who sacrifice for us every day,” said Clint Bruce, co-founder of Carry The Load. “Memorial Day is the perfect time for family members and friends to take time to show their appreciation by participating in the relay, whether that is walking, biking, running, raising money or just cheering on those walking through your community.”
