For K-12 students seeking an experience beyond the traditional campfires, s’mores and horseback riding, UT Dallas offers summer camps for kids interested in robotics, chess, sports, engineering, computer programming, theater and more.
The camps teach students new skills and give them an introduction to the University and college life, said Raul Hinojosa Jr., director of community engagement at UT Dallas.
“Many of our UT Dallas students are involved in summer camps, and their enthusiasm for engaging younger students is one reason our camps are so successful,” Hinojosa said.

The application deadline for a Summer Camp Experience Scholarship, offered by the Department of Community Engagement and intended for students with limited resources, is April 1.
Middle-school girls interested in physics and engineering can apply to attend the Women in Physics annual Physics Camp for Girls. Applications are due April 15 and are available on the camp’s website.
Academic camps for middle- and high-school students include computer science and programming, math, debate and robotics. The Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science offers a number of camps, including computer animation, game development and cyberdefense. In addition, the Science and Engineering Education Center coordinates camps in which students build a solar car, operate unmanned aerial vehicles, and launch rockets and weather balloons.
Enjoyable Programming Using Scribbler Robots, June 30-July 3, is among the many UT Dallas summer camps.
For younger kids, chess and robotics offer fun learning activities, and students in third grade and up can choose from many computer science and programming camps.
Athletics camps geared to boys and girls ages 5 to 18 take place in UT Dallas’ top-flight athletic facilities, and will help students sharpen their skills in several sports, including softball, soccer, volleyball, baseball, basketball and tennis.
For children dealing with articulation and communication issues, or those with autism spectrum disorders, UT Dallas’ Callier Center for Communication Disorders offers several opportunities. The options include speech and listening sessions to assist children who have cochlear implants.
