Homecoming 2011 brought out the best in Comet spirit last week all over campus.

The four-day celebration concluded with two victorious basketball games and a new homecoming couple. Godswill Ugwa was named King and Jessica Rodriguez was named Queen at the Orange, Green and White Ball on Nov. 19.

Participation in the parade and other events was high. A new 5K run added to the lineup drew about 120 runners, including students faculty, staff and alumni.

The men’s basketball team outscored Centenary College, 79-66. And the women’s basketball team also dominated with a 73-59 victory. Seniors Chris Barnes, 25 points, and Lynsey Smith, 21 points, led the Comets in scoring.

The teams had some of the biggest crowds of the year, with about 800 spectators.

During the games, there was a “white out” and students were given white hand towels and special T-shirts before each game. Crowds were so large that organizers ran out of shirts.

Winners of a homecoming photography contest will be announced Monday, Nov. 28. The first place winner receives a $200 gift card from the UT Dallas Bookstore, second gets a $100 card and third, a $50 card.
