The School of Arts and Humanities is holding its 11th Annual Texas Guitar Competition and Festival on March 2-3. The competition will showcase the playing of internationally known classical guitarists and award $8,000 in cash prizes to competition winners.

Guest artists this year include Jeff Cogan and Duo Melis.
Jeff Cogan will present “Buying a World Class Guitar.” Cogan served as director of the Guitar Foundation of America’s international guitar competition for more than 20 years.
Duo Melis features Susana Prieto of Madrid and Alexis Murakis of Athens. They have performed in such prominent international halls as Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw and the Berlin Philharmonie.
This two-day event also allows guitar students to attend master classes. The schedule of the competition is available on the festival website.

Global Positions – The photographers in this exhibition travel through unfamiliar terrain, underscoring the connection between records of the past and the present that involve environmental concerns, border issues and regional conflicts. The exhibit is curated by UT Dallas faculty members Danielle Avram and Marilyn Waligore. The opening reception for the exhibit is 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Friday, March 3, in the Visual Arts Building. The exhibit runs through March 24.
Global Positions opens Friday, March 3, in the Visual Arts Gallery.
Exhibiting artists include Kael Alford, Rick Dingus, Ronit Ilan, Paho Mann, Brent Phelps, and David Taylor.
Sin, Sex, and the CIA — UT Dallas students will stage Sin, Sex, and the C.I.A., a farce that pokes fun at American diplomacy, intrigue and hypocrisy. The play centers on a bumbling CIA agent and an undersecretary who are sent to a safe house in the Virginia mountains to negotiate with foreign oil holders. The plot gets more colorful with the addition of a stranded televangelist, a glamorous neighbor and an ex-Marine caretaker who isn’t all that he seems to be. Kathy Lingo, assistant director of theater, is directing the show, which runs March. 1-3 at 8 p.m. in the University Theatre.
