President David E. Daniel will kick off UT Dallas’ celebration of National Engineers Week today.
President Daniel will relate his reflections about the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill during a 4 p.m. event.
As a civil engineer and member of the prestigious National Academy of Engineering, he served on a committee appointed by the National Academy of Engineering and the National Research Council to examine the tragedy.
On-campus activities will continue through next week, with interactive demonstrations of research by professors and students in Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science, tours of local high-tech companies and tech talks given by industry and academic engineers.

High school girls will once again visit UT Dallas as part of the national Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day, which strives to show how creative and collaborative engineering is and how engineers are changing our world.
The week concludes on Saturday, Feb. 23, with a Lego building contest and Beyblade challenge.
“National Engineers Week is an opportunity for our students and faculty to explore the great work being done on campus with our local high-tech industry and from experts across our nation,” said Dr. Mark W. Spong, dean of the Jonsson School. “We have a lot of exciting events planned and hope the entire University family considers participating and inviting their friends.”
