Comet Sports Teams Begin Runs for Conference Championships
Women's Cross Country Team Wins Second Consecutive Crown; Volleyball Team Gets Set to Host ASC Tourney

Women's Cross Country Team

The women's cross country team celebrates after winning its second consecutive American Southwest Conference championship.

The UT Dallas women's cross country team and senior Lindsey Rayborn repeated as champions on Saturday at the American Southwest Conference Championships at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, Texas.

The Comets held off second-place McMurry University by 14 points to collect their second league title in program history. They will compete in the NCAA Division III Regional Championships on Saturday, Nov. 11, in Newport News, Virginia.

Rayborn recorded a personal-best time of 22:37 in the 6-kilometer race to claim her second-straight individual title. Sophomore Hollee Ratliff placed sixth with a time of 24:11 to earn first-team All-ASC honors for the second time as well. Senior Samantha Tschirhart earned second-team All-ASC recognition as she finished ninth with a time of 24:33. Rayborn and Tschirhart became the first Comets in program history to finish their careers as four-time All-ASC honorees.

Freshman Anna Schaeffer was honored as the ASC Women's Cross Country Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year, while head coach Rayn House was named the ASC Coach of the Year for the second straight season.

Meanwhile, the men’s cross country team finished second for the second straight season at the conference championships. Junior John Will was the Comets’ top finisher, placing 14th with a time of 27:34 in the 8-kilometer race.

Women’s Soccer

The women's soccer team opened its conference championship tournament on Tuesday with a 2-1 win over Sul Ross State University in the quarterfinals. The Comets (16-3, 10-2 ASC), seeded No. 3 in the tournament, will face Mary Hardin-Baylor in the semifinals on Friday. For more information about the tournament, click here.

Men’s Soccer

The two-time defending ASC champion men’s soccer team (10-5-2. 7-3-1 ASC) will play Hardin-Simmons University in the conference tournament quarterfinals on Thursday in Belton, Texas. Check out the schedule and the pairings on the ASC championship page.

Volleyball

The volleyball team (21-9, 13-3 ASC) will host its conference championship tournament beginning Thursday at the Activity Center. The Comets, the defending two-time ASC champions, are the No. 1 seed out of the East Division. They will face either Concordia Texas or East Texas Baptist in their first match at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Daily admission for the tournament is $10 for adults and $5 for students, and includes all games for the specified day. No passes are accepted. To learn more about the tournament, click here.
