UT Dallas continues to make strides in its pursuit of becoming a top research university — from campus enhancements to increased enrollment of high-quality students and the addition of prominent faculty — as described in the recently released 2014 UT Dallas Annual Report.
“In 2004, the Washington Advisory Group defined our main obstacle to becoming a Tier One research institution — our size. Since that report was issued, UT Dallas has become one of the fastest-growing universities in Texas, exceeding our plan to increase the size of the student body and faculty by 5 percent a year,” UT Dallas President David E. Daniel said. “We aren’t building just for the sake of being bigger. Our growth signals that we are preparing to compete among the best public universities in America.”
Among the highlights in the report:
- The University celebrated the final phase of Realize the Vision: The Campaign for Tier One & Beyond, which raised more than $265 million. The goal to raise $200 million during the five-year effort was surpassed nine months early.
- The number of students enrolled at UT Dallas increased to more than 23,000 — up 9 percent from 2013. Student enrollment has risen 35 percent in five years.
- A total of 285 National Merit Scholars attend the University, 100 of whom are part of the 2014 freshman class.
- The $75 million, 600-bed Residence Hall West opened in the fall. The facility houses six Living Learning Communities: arts and technology, computer science, engineering, management, pre-health and social sciences.
