The 26th Annual Holiday Sing, The University of Texas at Dallas’ oldest cultural tradition, will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8., in the University Theatre on campus. This year’s program is entitled A Medieval to Modern Christmas. In addition to the traditional evening performance, a special Children’s Concert will be added that afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
Admission is free, but because of the popularity of this annual holiday event it is recommended that tickets be obtained in advance by calling 972-883-2787 or by visiting the Art & Performance office in the Visual Arts Building Tuesdays to Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All tickets not picked up in the office by Dec. 6 will be released to patrons at the door.
The afternoon Children’s Concert will include sing-along songs and a special visit by Santa Claus. The Traditional Concert at 7:30 p.m. will feature the UTD Chamber Singers, UTD Chorale and the Symphonic Brass Quintet, directed by Kathryn Evans. There also will be speakers to delight the audience with special Christmas readings. The audience will be invited to sing along with traditional carols and the Hallelujah chorus from the “Messiah.”
The Holiday Sing began at UTD 26 years ago with a simple invitation to the university’s neighbors to visit the campus for a special event. Since then, the concert has become a favorite tradition for residents of the Dallas and Richardson areas.
