UTD Schedules Fall Presentation of ‘Jet-Set’ – Art Works Created by Electronic Imaging Tools

The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), in an effort to demonstrate new methods in art, will present an exhibition this fall entitled “Jet-Set.” The exhibition will present works created by electronic imaging tools ranging from ink jet prints to live computer video conferencing.

Works by the following artists from Austin, Dallas and Houston will be featured: Mark Babbcock, Scott Barber, Michelle Ganales, Jin-Ya Huang, Brandon Kennedy, Jeff Dalton, Michael Odom, Aaron Parazette, Sharon Engelstein, Reynaldo Thompson and Angela White.

“Jet-Set” will open with a reception in the Main Gallery of the UTD Visual Arts Building on Friday, Sept. 6, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., and run through Oct. 5.

“The privileged status of painting and photography has recently diminished with more recent forms of cultural production,” said UTD assistant professor and exhibition curator John Pomara. “The development of quality electronic imaging tools is allowing artists to create new images utilizing these tools in their daily studio practice. By manipulating computers, printers and digital cameras, the artists in the ‘Jet-Set’ exhibition move beyond the mechanical reproduction means of 60’s art to techno-production through electronic imaging.”

All UTD art exhibitions are free and open to the public. The Visual Arts Building is open Mondays to Fridays from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The building is closed on Sundays.
