The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) will present an all-Mozart concert featuring Music for a Pantomime, K.446 and other works conducted by UTD Composer-In-Residence Robert Xavier Rodríguez on Friday, Oct. 11, at 8 p.m. in the University Theatre.
Tickets for the concert are $10 for the general public, $5 for students of other universities and children under 18 and free to students with a UTD photo identification card.
Rodríguez will conduct UTD’s Musica Nova Ensemble in a fully staged performance of Mozart’s commedia dell’arte-based Music for a Pantomime, K.446. Faculty theater artist Fred Curchack will provide stage direction and will appear in the role of Pantalone. Long believed lost, this unique work was reconstructed in 1995 by Franz Beyer from the first violin part, which was found in Berlin. In the original 1783 production in Vienna, Mozart himself appeared as an actor, in the role of Arlecchino.
This Mozart pantomime continues a long series of collaborations between Rodríguez and Curchack. Last season at UTD, Curchack directed and appeared in A Midsummer Night’s Dream accompanied by a new score by Rodríguez.
Tickets are available for purchase Tuesdays to Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Art & Performance Office in the Visual Arts Building on the UTD campus and at the door of each event one hour prior to show time.
