The Institute for Interactive Arts and Engineering at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) will host a three-day multimedia “Computer Games and Animations” festival Sept. 13-15 at UTD’s Conference Center.

The free festival will feature lectures, presentations, panel discussions, exhibits and demonstrations involving leaders from major animation studios and game design and development companies. Speakers include John Romero, a creator of the video games Quake and Doom and CEO of Monkeystone Games and Craig Hammack of Industrial Light and Magic, a special effects and animation company developed by George Lucas. Question and answer sessions with the experts will follow each panel discussion.

The festival also will highlight UTD’s Institute for Interactive Arts and Engineering, which is a joint creation of the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science and the School of Arts and Humanities. Faculty members of the institute currently are developing a unique set of interdisciplinary degree programs in arts and technology that will combine the study, creation and application of interactive digital media.

Activities will begin Friday, Sept. 13, at 5 p.m. and will continue through Sunday afternoon.
