Master’s Portfolio Art Exhibition “SQUARE DANCING” opens July 5th

The University of Texas at Dallas will present “SQUARE DANCING,” an art exhibition featuring the work of Walid Dalal from July 5 to Aug. 1 in the Visual Arts Building on the UTD campus.

A graduate of the University of Dallas, Dalal previously has been involved in one show at the 500X Gallery. The UTD exhibition is in partial fulfillment of Dalal’s master’s degree in Aesthetic Studies. The M.A. in Aesthetics Studies at UTD is an extensive interdisciplinary program that uses the aesthetic approach in conjunction with philosophy and literature in order to allow the artist’s work to be grounded in conceptual thought, utilizing viewpoints from musical artists, visual artists, writers and philosophers.

Dalal’s work uses elements of photography, graphic design, painting and sculpture. As an installation, however, his art is defined more by the significance of the subject matter and less by the medium. The issues emphasized in his work examine the natural and artificial aspects of life using textures and patterns found in daily life.

“Bombarded with media, everyday life has become influenced by the artificial, altering the way humans, as a society, function and communicate,” said Dalal, whose work captures the subconscious effects of the natural and artificial in today’s culture, addressing these issues in the hopes of generating more sensitivity for the natural world.

The Opening Reception of “SQUARE DANCING” will be on Thursday, July 5 from 7:05 to 9:05 p.m. in the Main Gallery of the Visual Arts Building. The building is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., and on Saturdays, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. It is closed on Sundays. Admission is free.
