Comets Join Hurricane Harvey Relief Efforts

Student-athletes Stefanie Polderman and David Merz operate a donation booth to benefit victims of Hurricane Harvey.

To the UT Dallas family,

We are all aware of the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey and experienced by our students, friends, families and colleagues living along the Texas coast.

To help those affected, the Office of Student Volunteerism (OSV) has compiled a relief effort guide for the campus community. The OSV is working with various groups, including student-athletes, to collect contributions from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily through Friday, Sept. 1, at a tent on Trellis Plaza. If you wish to donate online, visit UTDHarveyRelief.

If you want to help, please reach out to the OSV at ext. 6131 or via email at [email protected].

A variety of services, including the Comet Cupboard for students, are available to assist with stresses related to the storm. The Counseling Center is encouraging students seeking support to come by. Similarly, the Employee Assistance Program is available to faculty and staff, as well as their family members.

Please keep all those impacted by Hurricane Harvey in your thoughts during this difficult time.

Vice President for Student Affairs

On Thursday, after University of Houston men’s basketball coach Kelvin Sampson sent out a challenge for colleges to donate clothes and shoes to Hurricane Harvey victims, the UTD men’s basketball team and other universities answered the call.
