Emergency Aid is available to students through the federal CARES Act and the UT Dallas Student Emergency Financial Assistance Program. UT Dallas has established a website with more detailed information about each of these funds, as well as other resources for students in need of assistance.

Our top priority is your health and safety. We advise students to take health precautions recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention .

Health & Counseling Services

• Students who think they have COVID-19 should notify the Dean of Students Office and their instructors. If you are living on campus, please notify a member of the University Housing staff immediately to work with you on the next steps. If you have tested positive for COVID-19 or had close contact with someone who has tested positive, please fill out our COVID-19 self-report form. 
• The Student Health Center is closed until further notice. However, students can call the center at 972-883-2747, then select option 2 to speak with a nurse.
• Students enrolled in the student health insurance plan have access to a 24/7 nurse line and telehealth appointments by calling 1-800-581-0368. Virtual Health appointments are available to current policyholders at no cost.
• Specific information about the student health plan can be found on the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas website.
• If a student needs a prescription renewal, please log in to the patient portal and send a message to your health care provider.

Students may visit the Student Counseling Center website for information on how to access services. If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, please call 911. Enrollment and Registration

• A fall 2020 registration information page has been added to the Comets United Students Guide. It details the five ways classes will be taught.
• Academic advisors are available to assist you remotely. Email your advisor for information on the best way to connect.
• The schedule of summer and fall classes is available on Coursebook.
• Summer 2020 courses will be offered in an online format.

Learning Resources

The Student Success Center will virtually provide course support in the areas of science, math, writing, and speaking for undergraduate students for the remainder of Spring 2020. The University offers resources to help ease the transition to online classes.

• Instructors will communicate with students to share revised syllabi and information on how to access content and coursework on our eLearning platform. Faculty members will offer virtual office hours.
• All classes will be offered through eLearning. If you need assistance, call the eLearning Helpdesk at 866-588-3192.
• Access and Software
  • A number of internet service providers offer discounts and increased Wi-Fi limits. Charter/Spectrum is offering free Wi-Fi access for students . Other providers also have special discounts during this period.
  • Students can use the Microsoft Teams application for instant messaging, collaboration and communication. The Office of Information Technology (OIT) has information on how to install and use Microsoft Teams.
•  OIT has unlocked accessibility features within the Office 365 applications for students with low or no vision, and those who are deaf and/or hard of hearing. For more information, email the OIT Help Desk at [email protected].
• The Eugene McDermott Library building is closed until further notice. However, the library offers a variety of services and resources for remote learning and distance education. For overdue materials, there is a drive-up book return in the driveway that exits parking Lot G adjacent to the library. If you have circumstances preventing physical book returns, please contact [email protected].
• The Office of Undergraduate Education  is conducting all business via email and phone until further notice. Please email the office with any questions.
• The Office of Graduate Education (OGE) has made arrangements for final oral examinations and doctoral defenses to proceed online. Check with OGE for updated information.

 Take the following steps to successfully manage online classes:

• Create a dedicated workspace with minimal distractions.
• Set a schedule to structure your time.
• Take notes during online lectures.
• Stay in contact with other students virtually and be sure to use campus resources and ask for help.

Financial Aid

The Office of Financial Aid is offering financial aid counseling via email or a scheduled telephone conference. If you would like to schedule a telephone call with a financial aid representative, please submit an online Meeting Request Form with your time preference and contact information. The office will confirm the time with you via email.

Career Services & Student Employment

The University Career Center physical office is closed, and all in-person events have been canceled for the remainder of the spring semester. Virtual appointments can be booked through Handshake  and online resources including seminars and career events are still available including The University of Texas System Virtual Career Fair  on April 7. To prepare for online interviews, University Career Services has teamed with the InterviewStream platform , which offers mock questions, interview pointers and online seminars. Campus Operations

The UT Dallas Police Department remains at full capacity. For nonemergencies, call 972-883-2222. The campus police will perform building entry assists for those who are authorized. For emergencies, call 911. Dining Services hours have been modified. Please check the website and social media for updates. The Comet Cupboard is doing weekly on-campus distributions of food and personal care items. Please monitor social media or email [email protected] to learn more about scheduled distributions. The University Bookstore and Tech Store are open. Parking and transportation services have been modified. Monitor their website and social media for updates. Comet Cabs will not be operating. For accessible cart service, students can submit a request, which must be approved at least one week before the service is required. Staff and faculty can email [email protected] to arrange service. Comet Cruisers will run on their normal schedules. University Housing is open to residents only, and card access is required to enter certain facilities. Desk operations will continue with limited hours. All housing tours are canceled, and new appointments are not being accepted.
